The Harry Wilson dream is over for Leeds United as journalist shares latest

Leeds United fans will have been watching Harry Wilson’s heroics for Fulham this season and hoped that, come January, Adam Underwood might have been able to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Leeds pushed hard for Wilson on deadline day and even submitted a deal sheet in the hope a move for the Wales star could be orchestrated after the deadline had passed. But Wilson remained in West London.

Wilson was keen on a move to Elland Road. While Leeds were pushing on deadline day, Wilson was with the Wales squad, and the chances are, Leeds’ Welsh contingent were attempting to help secure a transfer.

Leeds United still want him, but can they sign Harry Wilson in January? 🤞

Leeds wanted Wilson in Jan.

“They [Leeds] would remain keen again in January as they look to strengthen their squad for a battle against relegation, but a move [for Wilson] is currently deemed unlikely.”

But Wilson has stayed with Fulham and, since then, has been on fire. A goal and two assists in Fulham’s 3-2 win over Burnley has taken Wilson’s tally to eight goals and assists in 15 appearances for the Cottagers.

However, Leeds fans remain hopeful, and that’s due to the Wales star’s contract. Wilson will see his deal expire next summer, and it may be that Fulham will have to sell in January to avoid losing him on a free.

Dean Jones with the latest on Harry Wilson’s Fulham future

But the chances of Leeds signing Wilson have dwindled. Not least, because Fulham and Leeds are direct rivals in the fight to avoid relegation, but also because Fulham would probably rather lose him on a free.

His form is the heartbeat of Fulham’s side at the moment and now, there is even better news for those of a Fulham persuasion. Dean Jones says Wilson has an offer on the table, and the playmaker is set to sign.

“Offer on the table for him. I think he’ll sign it. I don’t think it would be wise to change clubs when you’re in a moment like this, coming into potentially having the next two years of your career be the best.

“If it can get any better than this, particularly if Marco Silva ends up signing too, which I am expecting him to do, you’ve just got to keep going with that while you’ve got it,” transfer expert Jones told Ranks FC.

What Marco Silva said about Harry Wilson’s future this month

With an offer on the table and Wilson in the form of his life, there is every chance he signs on. Wilson will be desperate to maintain this form ahead of the World Cup play-offs in March, where they face Bosnia.

A move to a new club could jeopardise that. While a move to Leeds is pretty safe and would guarantee his game time, it is impossible to say that for certainty. Silva recently commented on Wilson’s future.

“I don’t have any update. These type of things, when we have something new, it’s like the others as well. When I’m going to have any feedback from the board, we are going to say something to you,” he said.

It has always felt unlikely ever since the summer. Even if Fulham wanted to sell Wilson in January to bring in some cash, Leeds would be one of the last clubs they sell to, given the Whites are a direct rival.
