Patrick Bamford has been a revelation since making the surprise move to Sheffield United under Chris Wilder, after being released by Leeds United and Daniel Farke in the summer.
The 32-year-old was axed by Farke after promotion to the Premier League, ending a seven-year stint at Elland Road and a spell which truly embodied ‘ups and downs’. He chose to terminate his Leeds contract.
A year was left on it, but Bamford chose to leave. He remained a free agent for a few months after links with Celtic, the MLS, La Liga side Getafe and even training with Frank Lampard’s Coventry City this term.
Patrick Bamford scores his first professional goal in 19 months for Sheffield United… not sure how to feel about this🤔
But after Wilder returned to Sheffield United for a third spell, the Blades boss brought in Bamford on a free and he has since scored five goals in 10 Championship games – clocking up almost 500 minutes.
Bamford and Wilder put aside issues in the past, including a certain song sung by Bamford about the Blades manager outside Elland Road. But his short-term deal expires after the weekend’s FA Cup game.
A shock new suitor has emerged for Patrick Bamford this month
While Leeds fans weren’t particularly delighted with his choice of club, many are happy to see Bamford doing so well. Many felt he was harshly treated by Leeds and Farke in the summer, forcing him to leave.

But after proving his fitness and reminding fans of his goal threat, Bamford now has a decision to make. Sheffield United are keen to tie Bamford down to a deal until the summer, but a new suitor has emerged.
Indeed, transfer expert Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon that Ipswich Town and Kieran McKenna are keeping tabs on his future at Bramall Lane. A direct rival for Leeds and Farke during the 2023-24 season.
The report claims that if Bamford doesn’t sign on, Ipswich will take him with McKenna looking to bring in a striker with some experience. It is claimed Bamford is settled, but if the offer is right, may be tempted.
Now the dust has settled on Patrick Bamford’s move to Sheffield United… was Daniel Farke wrong to AXE him?
What Chris Wilder has said about Patrick Bamford’s new contract
Sheffield United take on Mansfield in the third round of the FA Cup on the weekend, and after the clash, Bamford will be a free agent again unless something changes. The Blades are pushing to keep Bamford.
Speaking ahead of the game, Wilder spoke on the progress of that deal: “I’m pushing as much as I can. But obviously there’s a negotiation involved in it. And there will be an attraction from other clubs.
“Because of what he’s done. So that was the gamble of bringing him in. He wanted to sign a short-term deal as well. It’s not that we didn’t give him a longer-term deal. That’s the road he wanted to go down.”
Sheffield United currently sit in 16th place in the Championship, with nine points separating Wilder’s side and the play-offs. Ipswich, meanwhile, currently sit third in the Championship, two behind Middlesbrough.
