Nottingham Forest confirm £10m signing of striker that was on Leeds United’s shortlist

A starting striker remains a priority for Leeds United this summer despite the addition of Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer from Wolfsburg, the club’s first of three additions so far.

Immediately after a deal to sign the Germany international had been confirmed, Leeds made it clear that Nmecha would only provide cover for a starting striker with Adam Underwood keen to bring in another.

Leeds are closing in on a deal to land Gabriel Gudmundsson this weekend with the Swede expected in Yorkshire on Sunday. It sees Underwood and Leeds sort out their defence before moving up the pitch.

Plenty of strikers have been linked with Leeds including Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz, Everton striker Beto and Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic. But another on Leeds’ radar has just completed a move to Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest announce £10m signing of Igor Jesus

Earlier in the window, Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News that Leeds had looked at Igor Jesus. The Brazil striker had a hand in 63 goals in 88 games for Shabab Al-Ahli in Dubai before joining Botafogo.

Another 17 goals have followed in 59 Botafogo appearances and that has attracted plenty of interest in the 24-year-old. But now, Forest have confirmed the signing of striker Jesus on a four-year contract.

Reports say that Jesus has set Forest back a fee believed to be in the region of £10m. It makes sense that Leeds had considered Jesus – given he is before his prime, boasts Brazil caps and is just below 6ft.

Which striker looks most-likely to join Leeds this summer?

Fulham’s Muniz is the one that Leeds have really tried to sign. The Whites have seen a £32m bid for the Brazilian rejected, though it is unclear if Leeds will go back in with Fulham wanting a massive £50m.

Tottenham are keen on Muniz and Muniz is willing to join Spurs, even if he might only be second choice behind Dom Solanke. Sources close to Leeds suggest that a move for Krstovic is untrue, with Roma keen.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin may find himself off to Man United on a free. As things stand, the chances are that a striker signing at Leeds will come in the form of a player yet to be linked with a move to Elland Road.
