A surprise report from Italian media claimed this week that Leeds United are one of a number of Premier League clubs considering a move to sign AC Milan striker Divock Origi – and Dom Matteo is a big fan of the Belgian star.

Considered iconic for his crucial goals in a Liverpool shirt, 27-year-old Origi left Liverpool on a free transfer last summer to join AC Milan. It looked as though it would be a brilliant move; he was joining the Serie A champions.

But, it has not gone to plan. The feeling was that he would eventually overtake veteran strikers Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, he has scored just two goals in 26 games – starting only six of those matches.

CalcioMercato report that Milan have grown fed up of Origi’s lack of form – despite hardly being given a chance to get any kind of momentum going under Stefano Pioli. Leeds, Villa, Palace and West Ham are all interested in him.

Speaking to LFC TV – as per Inside Futbol – ex-Liverpool and Leeds defender Matteo gave his verdict on Origi. Matteo spoke about Origi after he scored 5-0 win over Watford in February 2019, a team managed by Javi Gracia.

“I’d like to see him stretch defences more with his pace and his power, and be a little bit more physical because he’s a big lad; use his physicality more”, Matteo said on LFC TV’s preview show, as per football website Inside Futbol.

It is unclear if firstly, Leeds will actually need a striker. Secondly, if Milan are ready to offload him and if so, for what price. Origi is obviously a talented striker but just needs the platform to get back to his brilliant best.

He has a contract at Milan until June 2026, worth £87,000 a week. It might be that Leeds go after Origi if Rodrigo decides to leave. The Spaniard is out of contract next summer, so may fancy leaving if Leeds do want a fee for him.
