Leeds United’s January striker plans set to be ruined by Bayern Munich

Leeds United need goals. The January transfer window is fast approaching and supporters are desperate to see the club bring in an attacker, but Bayern Munich may have a say in that.

The main issue Leeds have is that the club sits right on the Profit & Sustainability Rules border. Managing director Robbie Evans has already said that any more signings would see Leeds cross over into the red.

Should Leeds follow Nottingham Forest’s path and risk a points deduction? 💸

“This summer, we spent everything we could. Unequivocally, we are maxing PSR out this season. If we had gone on to other targets [on deadline day], the consequences would have been seen in the current roster. More key players from last season would have had to go.”

There are of course, ways around this. Signing a player or two on loan, with a permanent clause activated after June 30, is a possibility. That way, any fee goes onto next season’s accounts and Leeds are spared.

Or, selling a player to create PSR headroom. Reports this week state Leeds are willing to listen to offers for Willy Gnonto, which would then allow them to spend. One on the radar is Ireland hero Troy Parrott.

Bayern Munich throw hat into the ring for Troy Parrott

Back in the summer, Leeds turned down the chance to sign Parrott for £25m. But interest remains in the Ireland striker, having scored 14 goals in 13 games for Dutch Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar this season.

LeedsUnited.News understands Leeds had scouts in place to watch Parrott against Portugal this break. He scored two in a 2-0 win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s side, before a hat-trick in a 3-2 win to beat Hungary.

Parrott’s goals have made him the darling of Ireland, securing an unlikely World Cup play-off place. It has also seen Leeds reignite interest in Parrott, with reports in Holland claiming Leeds remain in contact.

However, TeamTalk suggest Leeds could be about to miss out. That is because European giants Bayern Munich and Juventus have thrown their name into the mix ahead of a potential January transfer.

Which position do Leeds United need to strengthen most in January?

Explain why!

Troy Parrott’s choice of club is absolutely crucial for his career

It’s a big moment for Parrott. He might well prefer to remain at AZ, where he knows he is scoring goals for fun and in what could be a World Cup year for Ireland, maintaining that form will now be important.

But, the lure of the Premier League, which is said to appeal to Parrott, as well as the giants of European football in Bayern or Juventus, will surely tempt him. Not least, the money those sides have to offer.

Parrott needs to be the main man, to feel like he is responsible for a club’s success. To start games, to score goals and lead a side into battle. He is doing that for Ireland and AZ and look at his goal ratio.

A move to Bayern or Juventus, while illustrious, good for the wallet and improves his chances of some silverware, will see him be second choice. A move to Leeds may suit, but his goals could easily dry up.

Parrott has a massive decision to make in what could be the making of his career, this season. If Leeds have any chance, any glimmer, of nabbing Parrott’s signature, they absolutely have to pursue a deal.
