Leeds United told ‘remarkable’ Chelsea player will cost huge fee, £10m more than Jaka Bijol price

Leeds United’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper remains ongoing, with Adam Underwood’s team not close to confirming any new signings following the arrival of defender Jaka Bijol.

The £15m capture of Bijol was agreed earlier this month, after the out-of-the-blue deal for Lukas Nmecha on a free from Wolfsburg. His pre-contract will become official on July 1, when his Wolfsburg deal ends.

But that is where we are in terms of incoming signings at the moment. Leeds remain in the market for a whole influx of players, with The 49ers expected to provide the funds for up to 10 summer additions.

A new goalkeeper, left-back, midfielder, left-winger, no.10 and a starting striker remain priorities for the club. Newcastle’s Nick Pope feels like the club’s top target in goal, but Pope is happy to stay at Newcastle.

Another option that has been regularly linked throughout the summer is a goalkeeper currently owned by Chelsea. Now, Leeds have learned the staggering fee it would take to land Djordje Petrovic’s services.

Leeds United told how much Djordje Petrovic would cost

This summer, Leeds have shown they are willing to go above £20m. Two bids made for Habib Diarra, the most-expensive of which was £23.9m. Diarra of course, is about to join Sunderland for a massive £35m.

A fee Leeds simply were not prepared to pay to sign Diarra. Elsewhere, Leeds have also seen a £32m bid rejected for Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz and continue to be linked with players worth more than £20m.

TeamTalk states how much Chelsea want if they are to sell Serbia international Petrovic – and he won’t be cheap. Indeed, Todd Boehly’s side want £25m for a goalkeeper Liam Rosenior said is “remarkable”.

Djordje Petrovic would become Leeds’ third-joint biggest signing

The £15m deal for Bijol is a bargain and even more so when you consider he’s not even in the top 10 most-expensive signings Leeds have ever made. Indeed, Raphinha only just makes the list at a £17m fee.

Petrovic, despite being a goalkeeper – and goalkeepers are often valued less than strikers – would be the club’s third-most-expensive transfer ever, level with Dan James when he swapped Man United for Leeds.

Leeds have only bought two players that have cost more than £25m and they were both strikers, in the form of Rodrigo and Georginio Rutter. Leeds signed Rodrigo for £27m, while Rutter is still the record deal.
