Leeds United suffer blow in pursuit of Premier League captain as his side table four-year deal

Leeds United have been touted with a plethora of Premier League players this summer and a current club captain has emerged on the Elland Road radar – with his contract set to expire.

Leeds need additions all over the park. A new goalkeeper, a centre-back, a couple of midfielders, a no.10 and a striker are certainly priorities. Replacing Junior Firpo and Manor Solomon will also be fundamental.

That is, if Leeds choose not to keep Firpo and cannot convince Tottenham to sell Solomon. Reports from Solomon’s home country say that Leeds and Tottenham are struggling to find an agreement in talks.

With Firpo and Sam Byram possibly leaving the club this summer, and Isaac Schmidt open to offers, The Whites may need more full-backs and one option to emerge at Leeds is Wolves captain Nelson Semedo.

Wolves take action as Leeds eye shock Nelson Semedo move

Joining Wolves in the summer of 2020 from Barcelona, Portugal international Semedo is out of contract this summer after 181 appearances for the Molineux club. Leeds are one to watch in the race for Semedo.

But it appears Wolves are fighting tooth and nail to keep Semedo at the club, after Vitor Pereira made the right-back his captain. Wolves want to keep Semedo’s experience and leadership at the club this summer.

The Express & Star say Wolves have tabled a four-year deal to Semedo despite the right-back being 31. They are keen to make Semedo one of the club’s highest-paid players, and deter any potential interest.

Nelson Semedo would be a top signing, but unrealistic

There are two reasons why Semedo is probably not going to be high on the Leeds list. The first comes in the form of Jayden Bogle, who has just enjoyed a stellar season and will remain first choice next term.

If Semedo was to join, he would have to entertain playing as a left-back – if Firpo does leave. But Semedo has rarely played on the left and it would seem unlikely Leeds would blow cash on replacing Bogle.

The other issue is that Semedo is already on a big wage at Wolves. Salary Sport claim he is on £84,000 a week, and with Wolves ready to offer a pay increase, it is unlikely that Leeds will be able to match that.
