Leeds United star Joel Piroe could form Luke Ayling reunion as Daniel Farke decision made

Joel Piroe’s role at Leeds United has already been reduced to the margins, and reports claim Daniel Farke has already decided to sell him – with a Luke Ayling reunion on the cards.

Joel Piroe has not scored in the Premier League this season, but the more telling figure is how little he has been used. He’s played in just 14 of Leeds’ 34 Premier League matches so far.

Across 14 appearances, he has played just 218 minutes in the Premier League and made only two league starts, which equates to barely two full matches across an entire campaign. They came in August.

The Premier League gap is now impossible to ignore

Piroe’s struggles at this level stand in direct contrast to his output in the Championship, where he has repeatedly delivered. For four seasons, he scored 14 or more goals for Swansea City and Leeds.

How much is Joel Piroe worth? 💵

Leeds spent a total of £16m on Piroe…

He scored 19 Championship goals last season and previously hit 22 goals for Swansea, underlining a consistent pattern of second-tier productivity that has not translated to the top flight.

Leeds are already preparing for that reality, with TeamTalk reporting Piroe is free to leave this summer once their Premier League status is secured. Daniel Farke has already made the decision to move on.

The report states that both Middlesbrough and Rangers are viable options for the new Suriname international, who is set to enter the final year of his contract at Elland Road.

Middlesbrough stand out as a logical destination, offering a return to the Championship and a reunion with Luke Ayling, who joined Boro permanently in 2024. He played alongside Piroe for six months.

Leeds must act now to protect what remains of his value

Leeds invested significantly when Piroe joined for £16m, but his current role has left that value exposed.

And should Leeds give him one?

With a contract running to 2027 and minimal Premier League impact, this summer represents the clearest opportunity to move him on while there is still a defined market at Championship level.

Piroe’s situation is not unclear or developing, it is already settled through selection and usage, and Middlesbrough offers the most practical next step for a player whose level has been clearly established.
