Leeds United receive new boost in Ben Davies pursuit with 49ers ‘pushing hard’ to land Tottenham star

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies before the end of the January transfer window and now, have just received a boost.

It is not the first time that Leeds have been linked with Davies. The 92-time Wales star was linked with Leeds previously during Daniel Farke’s regime, and once again, Davies finds himself on The Whites’ radar.

Interest in Davies is likely to stem from the lack of cover Leeds have at centre-back, and that Junior Firpo is set to see his contract expire in the summer. Leeds are said to be ‘pushing hard’ to sign Davies now.

Indeed, a cut-price deal is said to be on the cards for Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Dan James, Karl Darlow and Charlie Crew’s teammate at National Team level. Whether Spurs are willing to sell him, is unclear.

Ben Davies boost as Leeds United pursue ambitious deal

With his £100k-a-week deal expiring in the summer, Leeds may have confidence they can strike a bargain deal with Spurs. A move that would see Tottenham avoid losing Davies on a free transfer in the summer.

Tottenham take on Arsenal on Wednesday night in the Premier League, a huge clash with Davies injured since the beginning of December. But Spurs expert Paul O’Keefe reports Davies could be fit to play again.

O’Keefe says Richarlison is fit and Davies is close to a return ahead of Arsenal on Wednesday: “Richarlison on track to be included in the squad for the North London Derby. Ben Davies close but not certain.”

Now, if Leeds do make a move to sign Davies, then the defender would be able to pass any medical that Leeds may put before him should The Whites manage to convince the former Swansea man to join.

How much Leeds would have to pay to sign Ben Davies…

Tottenham’s asking price for Davies is unclear and given their extensive injury list, it might be preferred by those at Spurs that Davies is at least retained until the summer. He may even sign a new Tottenham deal.

But, Tottenham signed Davies for a fee of £10m more than 10 years ago. While he has clocked up almost 350 appearances for the North London club, Davies is now in his thirties and Spurs may be keen to sell.

With everything added up and Spurs boasting less than three weeks to sell Davies or risk losing him on a free, Spurs will surely be willing to accept a figure far less than the one they paid to sign Davies in 2014.
