Leeds United player to join loan club for another season after play-off final loss vs Southampton

Victor Orta’s loan army look as if they will have another opportunity to leave Leeds United on loan this summer after The Whites failed to go up, and one player has already agreed to rejoin his loan side.

Orta’s relegation loan clause was inserted into some contracts, mostly signings made during the Jesse Marsch era. It said they were allowed to go on loan if the club were relegated, Leeds unable to reject bids.

Robin Koch, Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson moved to Germany, Jack Harrison and Luis Sinisterra to the Premier League. Marc Roca to Spain, while Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente both joined Roma.

Koch and Sinisterra have since left permanently, but the other six could be allowed to leave Elland Road on loan again because the club failed to get promoted on Sunday and that clause may be reactivated.

Roca, 27, has played 37 times for Betis and was first choice up until an injury in February which saw him lose his place. But, he is now set to rejoin Betis according to the latest reports from his home country.

Marc Roca to rejoin Betis from Leeds, deal agreed weeks ago

Roca has impressed, either playing in midfield or at centre-back and has even laid on four goals for the La Liga outfit. The Spaniard has always made it clear he would like to stay put at Betis ahead of the summer.

At one point, it looked as if he would return with Roca falling out of the side and Betis unwilling to meet Leeds’ asking price. But now, Betis do not have to pay a fee and can sign Roca on loan for another season.

That is because Orta’s clause becomes active again. Aficion Deportiva saw Betis want to keep him and are ‘getting closer’ to a deal, with Roca and Betis agreeing the renewal of his loan a few weeks ago.

Reports on these shores suggest that Leeds are confident of securing permanent sales for Roca, Llorente, Harrison and Wober with the Elland Road quartet all impressing while on loan at their current loan clubs.

But relegation throws a spanner in the world especially if Leeds are forced into sending them on loan for a second time. Leeds need cash, with £190m in player transfers needing to be paid back to other clubs.

If this loan is once again going to handicap Leeds’ summer, then it means the likes of Roca will go on loan without earning Leeds a single penny and force The 49ers to sell important current stars this summer.
