Leeds United will be a Premier League club next season and The 49ers will now be tasked with making the signings that keep Daniel Farke’s side in the top tier come the end of 2025-26.

A 6-0 win over Stoke City on Easter Monday meant Sheffield United had to beat Burnley to stop Leeds from gaining automatic promotion. However, Chris Wilder’s side lost to Burnley and Leeds are promoted.

Burnley, too. Leeds and Burnley both sit on 94 points with two games to go while Sheffield United are now eight points behind and will have to fight it out in the Championship play-offs at the end of 24-25.

Leeds will need defensive signings. The Whites have shown in the Championship this season and against Stoke that they can score plenty of goals, but if they are to survive, defensive additions are required.

Cameroon defender on Leeds shortlist, would cost bargain £3m

According to a report from Africa Foot, Leeds are interested in doing a deal for 10-time Cameroon defender Joyskim Dawa. The centre-back is currently playing for Romanian outfit Steaua Bucharest.

The 29-year-old, who stands at a lofty 6ft 4in, has clocked up 133 appearances for the Romanian side in the last three seasons. He helped Steaua Bucharest reach the last 16 of the Europa League this season.

A Romanian champion, Africa Foot say Leeds held talks to sign Dawa in the January transfer window, and now, Leeds remain interested ahead of a Premier League campaign. FCSB want a fee of £3m for Dawa.

Leeds United need a whole lot better than Joyskim Dawa

There is no doubt that if Leeds had remained in the Championship, Dawa would have been an interesting signing. But this summer, Leeds need battle-hardened, Premier League-proven players to come in.

Dawa is not that. The top tier of Romanian football is the highest domestic league he’s played in. While he has impressed in the Europa League and has caps for Cameroon, Leeds really need a better calibre.

Signing for Leeds as back-up to Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon in the Championship would have made sense. In the Premier League, Leeds need players that are better than Dawa, especially at the age of 29.
