Leeds United now preparing £12m bid to sign player that will have Brenden Aaronson worried

Leeds United are expected to make a new signing in attacking midfield this summer, with plenty of players already linked with a move to Elland Road over the last few weeks.

Brenden Aaronson has been good, if inconsistent. Returning to Leeds last summer, Aaronson may have rid himself of his weakness and lack of physicality tag, but his poor end product meant criticism remains.

After a season in the Championship, Aaronson managed just two assists in 46 Championship games in this Leeds side, starting 44 times. Incredible distances covered, ability to remain fit – but lack of quality.

Promoted to the Premier League, Leeds need better quality all over the pitch and in terms of improving what they already have, the no.10 role is the area that requires more improvement than any position.

The Whites have been linked with plenty of new signings in the 10 role. LeedsUnited.News have been told that Daniel Farke wants either a reunion with Emi Buendia, or to sign Sheff Utd’s Gustavo Hamer.

But Buendia might be somewhat expensive for a player who is largely injury-prone and, arguably, is now past his peak. In Hamer, he would be an improvement on Aaronson, but lacks top-flight experience.

Earlier this week, Leeds were linked with Angers captain Himad Abdelli and a report from Le Mediateur Maghrebin says The 49ers are about to offer £12m to land the six-goal Ligue 1 star’s services.

Leeds continue to search for bargain deals including Abdelli

Leeds want value for money this summer and are desperate to avoid paying over the odds, as many would argue the club did during the Andrea Radrizzani reign. Leeds need to keep costs as low as possible.

Signing Jaka Bijol was much cheaper than most might have paid for the Slovenian, if he has two or more years left on his Udinese deal. But because he was about to enter the final year, he could leave cheaply.

Like Bijol, Abdelli finds himself in the final year of his Angers contract and it means the French club are unable to request his full price. If Leeds are confident of his signing at £12m, he is probably worth £20m.
