Leeds United now open talks to sign ‘underrated’ Serie A giant, he has a £19m release clause

The hunt for a new goalkeeper is hotting up at Leeds United as Adam Underwood closes in on his fourth signing of the summer, with Gabriel Gudmundsson travelling to England on the weekend.

Gudmundsson is said to have arrived in England over the weekend before thrashing out a move to Elland Road. The Swede moves to Leeds after Junior Firpo departed on a free, with a move to Real Betis likely.

But Leeds are far from done and the need for a goalkeeper remains. Leeds have suffered a number of frustrations in this department, with Nick Pope happy at Newcastle even if James Trafford is signed.

Brentford won the race for Caoimhin Kelleher, while Sunderland continue to foil Leeds’ plans after deals for Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava and now, possibly either Djordje Petrovic or Lucas Perri.

Leeds now make enquiry to sign Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic

Leeds seem to have moved onto another target and this time, it is Torino’s Serbia international Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. The 28-year-old has been on the books at Torino for eight years, but could now leave.

After a few loans to begin with at Torino, Milinkovic-Savic only got going during his spell in Turin in the last four or five years. An impressive 52 clean sheets in 158 games while with Torino for the 6ft 8in star.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Milinkovic-Savic is a target for both Leeds and Antonio Conte’s Napoli. Leeds have made an enquiry to sign the goalkeeper, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

Interestingly, Milinkovic-Savic actually spent 18 months on the books at Man United without playing a single senior game, between the summer of 2014 and January 2016. Now, he could return to England.

After a 2-1 win over AC Milan in February, in which he denied Christian Pulisic from the spot, manager Paolo Vanoli is quoted by Tribal Football as describing giant goalkeeper Milinkovic-Savic as “underrated”.

According to Di Marzio, Milinkovic-Savic has a release clause for foreign clubs set at £19m. Whether The Whites are willing to splash a considerable amount of their budget on him remains to be seen.
