Leeds United now looking at signing striker with seven goals in his last eight games

Leeds United’s Under-21s side will be in need of strengthening in the summer.

Under Victor Orta, Leeds placed a huge emphasis on academy recruitment with the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood and Leo Hjelde having gone onto play for the first team, after initially linking up with the U23s.

While only Summerville has really gone onto establish himself at Elland Road from that team of youngsters, it shows how successful that strategy can be if recruitment and development is spot on.

Unfortunately Leeds have not quite got the latter right in recent years and so the U21s side is currently looking the weakest it has in a while, and the 49ers are no doubt aware of that.

So, with that in mind, according to the Daily Record, Leeds are among a crop of English clubs who have been scouting Kilmarnock striker Bobby Wales this season, during his loan spell at Alloa.

Ipswich Town and Stoke City are among some of the other sides to have taken a look at Wales, who has netted seven goals in his last eight appearances in Scottish League One.

Wales has also already played 10 times for Kilmarnock’s first team, and so has a decent amount of pedigree in senior football already.

Leeds have used the Scottish market before to strengthen at youth level, bringing in Stuart McKinstry from Motherwell back in 2019, and most recently Lewis Pirie from Aberdeen last summer.

Pirie is currently in the U18s at Leeds and is younger than Wales, and so if the latter does move to Elland Road, he would be more likely to go straight into the U21s setup.

For now, of course, Leeds have only been taking a look at this stage, but hopefully it is a sign of things to come that they want to get back to strengthening the academy.
