Leeds United have made moves to sign Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh from Norwegian club Tromso IL this summer, it has emerged.

Having secured their place in the Premier League for another season, the Whites are gearing up for a crucial summer transfer window.

Defensive reinforcements are certain to be on the agenda, with a backup for Gabriel Gudmundsson at left-back expected to be signed.

Meanwhile, Pascal Struijk’s future is expected to be a huge talking point at Elland Road this window, as he enters the final year of his contract.

Whether or not the Dutchman leaves, Leeds United need to bolster their options in central defence after switching to a back-three system under Daniel Farke in the recently concluded season.

With that in mind, Tromso centre-back Kinteh has emerged as a transfer target for the West Yorkshire outfit this summer.

According to Rudy Galetti, Leeds United have ‘gathered information’ on the Gambia international, as they plot a move for him.

Farke‘s side have added the 19-year-old to their transfer shortlist, but face competition from FC Koln in Germany.

The journalist reported that the Bundesliga club are continuing their push to sign Kinteh despite having a £4.3million bid turned down by Tromso in May.

Koln are ready to raise their offer to £5.2m, and it remains to be seen if that will be enough for Kinteh’s employers to sanction a sale.

With the German club pushing to sign the teenager, Leeds United must act quickly if they want his services at Elland Road.

Who is Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh?

Tromso signed Kinteh from the Mawadi Wade Academy in Senegal in March 2025, thanks to a partnership between the two clubs.

The defender made 21 appearances in Norway’s Eliteserien in his debut season, thus attracting interest from several clubs.

The Daily Mail reported in February that Chelsea and Manchester United are tracking the highly-rated Gambian.

Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli even made a strong effort to rope him in earlier this year.

Left-footed centre-backs are highly coveted in football right now, thus making Kinteh attractive to top clubs across the globe.

He is accustomed to playing as the left centre-back in a three-man defence in Norway and would therefore be an ideal addition at Leeds United.

Kinteh is also known for his extreme athleticism and ability to initiate attacks with both short and long passes.
