Leeds United fans may have few fond memories of Jesse Marsch’s time in charge of the club. But one fond memory will be the win at Liverpool in late 2022.
It was Crysencio Summerville’s 89th-minute goal that sealed Leeds United’s 2-1 win away at Liverpool in October of 2022, and a win that proved to be just one of 11 during the current Canada boss’ time in charge.
Leeds went on to be relegated that season, with Daniel Farke coming in for the Championship promotion bid. Last season, Leeds United won the Championship title under Farke and now they’re gearing up for their return to the big time.
They and Liverpool won their respective leagues last season. The pair will surely have a couple of entertaining clashes in the Premier League next season, but before they do, we might yet see a long-standing Reds player make his way to Elland Road.
An emerging report from TBR Football has revealed how Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez is a target for Leeds United this summer.

Leeds’ first goal of that memorable win at Anfield was scored by Rodrigo. And it was assisted by Gomez who, seemingly without looking, played a risky back pass to goalkeeper Alisson, which actually ran straight into the path of Rodrigo who finished into an almost empty net.
Labelled by one outlet as the ‘mistake of the year’, it sums up what’s been at times a very mixed spell at Liverpool for Gomez. The 28-year-old has now been with Liverpool since 2015 after joining from Charlton Athletic, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League, whilst also earning 15 caps for England.
But Gomez has never really held down a long stint in the Reds XI. He’s always been a somewhat backup player, but for Leeds United he could be a very shrewd signing if he doesn’t break the bank, in terms of both transfer fee and wages.

Gomez’ blunder against Leeds wasn’t that long ago. And it’s not the only time that he’s cost his side a goal. For Leeds United fans, there might be a few reservations about Gomez signing this summer.
But it looks like Farke is set to sign another centre-back before anyone else arrives, with reports that Leeds United are set to announce the signing of Jaka Bijol from Udinese in what is a £19million deal.
Whether Farke goes and spends big on another centre-back this summer remains to be seen, with plenty of other positions in need of strengthening.
But there’s a number of centre-backs linked with a move to Elland Road. Dara O’Shea has become a target for Leeds United after his Ipswich Town side were relegated from the Premier League, whilst Michael Keane is being linked with Leeds as well.
Farke seems to be focussing more on full-backs and attacking signings right now. But another centre-back after Bijol certainly seems likely and Gomez could be a shrewd addition, though Farke will hope he doesn’t gift the opposition any easy goals as he did for Leeds in 2022.
