Leeds United hit with new Pascal Struijk development after concerning transfer rumour

With only four Championship matchdays remaining, Leeds United are hurtling towards not only make-or-break time in their Premier League charge, but also the moment when decisions must be made over the future of numerous players.

Will Junior Firpo be rewarded for a fantastic 2025 with a new deal? Daniel Farke suggested that Firpo may only stay at Leeds if the Championship leaders have the riches of top-flight football boosting their finances next term.

Joshua Guilavogui looks certain to depart on a free transfer but what about Sam Byram? And will Leeds take up the chance to sign Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell permanently?

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want £15 million for Solomon – a bargain, on the evidence of Saturday’s mesmerising performance against Preston – while Rothwell’s £7.5 million asking price is likely to prove far more divisive.

One player Leeds United will be desperate to keep – and this almost goes without saying – is Pascal Struijk.

Yet, with some in the Netherlands suggesting that PSV Eindhoven may be keen to bring the Ajax academy graduate back to the Netherlands, a summer of unwelcome uncertainty may await the Belgian-born former Dutch youth star.

PSV Eindhoven could look to take Pascal Struijk from Leeds United

PSV, like Leeds with Byram, Guilavogui and Firpo, have some decisions to make as contracts run down.

The long-serving Olivier Boscagli is due to depart at the end of June as things stand. And, according to reports, all the signs right now point at a summer departure from the Philips Stadium.

Thus, a ball-playing, naturally left-footed central defender will be required to take Boscagli’s place. And this is where the £25 million-rated Struijk comes in.

Struijk has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur already. Feyenoord see Leeds’ number five as a replacement for David Hancko, the Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool-linked Slovakian powerhouse.

And with Struijk’s own contract now entering it’s final two years, one suspects this is a situation the Elland Road outfit really cannot afford to put on the backburner.

Having lost Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter last summer, Daniel Farke will also know that promotion will not only guarantee a return to the Premier League, it also represents Leeds’ best chance of keeping their most influential talent in West Yorkshire.

Struijk’s next Leeds appearance could be in the Premier League

Leeds will have to wait to see Pascal Struijk again, however.

Farke confirmed that the big defender picked up a foot fracture in the 1-1 draw at Luton Town. And while he will not require surgery, Struijk will play no part in the run-in.

I can officially confirm that the season is over for him,” Farke said on Friday. “It is a fracture in his foot. Thank God, he doesn’t need surgery but he will definitely be out for about ten weeks.

“So, he will just be ready when pre-season starts but he won’t play a game this season anymore. That’s obviously bad news.”

As Leeds moved five points clear of an imploding Sheffield United last time out – Manor Solomon and Jayden Bogle scored in a 2-1 win over Preston North End – Ethan Ampadu stepped into central defence with Ilia Gruev coming into the midfield.
