Leeds United have clear run at £4m ‘beast’ as target turns down rival transfer

This – Leeds United reportedly looking to add another attacker to their Championship-leading squad – is the sort of green they talk about in the bible, as they saying goes.

No team has more points than Daniel Farke’s side. No team has more goals either, Middlesbrough the only other club to hit the net over 40 times so far in the current campaign.

And such is the depth at Farke’s disposal, Leeds United can often afford to leave Wilfried Gnonto, Largie Ramazani, Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph on the bench, with Brenden Aaronson, Manor Solomon, Dan James and Joel Piroe starting in their place.

Yet, Leeds appear determined to add yet more firepower to an armoury more stocked than David Bradley’s in Hot Fuzz.

Leeds continue to be linked with Alvyn Sanches, the creative mastermind behind Lausanne Sport’s shock title bid in Switzerland. Farke is reportedly keen to rescue Mike Tresor from promotion rivals Burnley.

While Dor Turgeman of Maccabi Tel Aviv is another young forward who Leeds have followed closely.

A teammate of Solomon’s for the Israel national team, the Yorkshire giants are not alone in their pursuit of Turgeman.

The 21-year-old left-winger has plenty of admirers across the Atlantic too. And while Portland Timbers are the club who have been mentioned most frequently over in America, this only scratches the surface of that considerable MLS interest.

Now, Israeli publication One have mixed news as far as Leeds United are concerned.

On the upside, the £4 million-rated Turgeman ‘does not intend’ to make Major League Soccer his next destination. On the downside, he is in no rush to go anywhere any time soon.

Maccabi Tel Aviv boss Zarko Lazetic is desperate to keep Turgeman until the summer at least, and it appears that he may be in luck. At least, with Solomon, Gnonto and Ramazani all capable of thriving in the left-wing role Turgeman has made his own in Tel Aviv, Leeds should have few problems in that particular area of the pitch during the second half of the campaign.

Turgeman backed despite scoring drought in Israel

Turgeman, capped seven times by Israel, has nine goals and four assists to his name this season. He is currently enduring a five-match league drought, though Lazetic is losing no sleep over that as long as his performances remain at a relatively high standard.

“I’m not interested in the numbers, really,” Lazetic tells Sports. “I just want [my players] to perform well. Sometimes, it’s easier to score goals and sometimes not. I really believe in Dor, like in all the other players.”

Lazetic previously described Turgeman as a ‘beast’ on the football pitch. In addition to his potency in the final third, the Maccabi Tel Aviv number nine possesses the work-rate and the pressing qualities that Farke looks for in his forwards.
