Habib Diarra was in action for Senegal on Tuesday night after reports Leeds United had tabled a bid for the Strasbourg captain earlier this week – and Leeds fans have had their say.
The 21-year-old midfielder is one of four names strongly linked with a move to Elland Road in the past few days. Udinese’s Jaka Bijol was the first over the weekend, with Leeds set to meet his £18m price tag.
Then came Diarra, with reports from France claiming Leeds had tabled a £22m bid to land the Strasbourg ace. It comes after another brilliant season with the Ligue 1 club, shining under manager Liam Rosenior.
On Tuesday, Leeds opened talks to sign Aston Villa’s Alex Moreno and then reports emerged that The Whites had held talks for Anderlecht talent Mario Stroeykens. It seems Leeds are stepping things up.

Leeds fans discuss Habib Diarra display for Senegal v England
Winning his fifth cap for Senegal, Diarra was in the starting line-up for Senegal as they took on Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground. Senegal ran out 3-1 winners away from home.
That is despite Harry Kane opening the scoring for England. Diarra starred for his nation, scoring a second goal of the night, even if his effort took a deflection off of goalkeeper Dean Henderson before going in.
Leeds fans took to social media during and after the game as Diarra netted for Senegal, just hours after he had been linked with a move to Elland Road. Everton and Brighton are also interested in Diarra.
Plenty of Leeds fans were watching on not to see England in their final game of the season, but to watch their potential new signing in Diarra. One responded by saying “that’ll do for me, sign him up”.
Another Leeds supporter urged Leeds to “get the wallet out and pay” for Diarra after watching his display which came against the likes of Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher and others.
Plenty of Leeds fans responded on social media, with another describing Diarra as the “perfect box-to-box midfielder” and urged The 49ers to get him. Another thinks it is another “£5m on Diarra’s price tag”.

Habib Diarra’s stats for Senegal in 3-1 win over England
Clearly, Diarra is a top player and a goalscoring midfielder, something which Leeds have lacked in recent seasons – even if Ao Tanaka scored four times last season. Leeds have lacked a real box-to-box midfielder.
Habib Diarra’s stats for Senegal in win over England:
- 71 minutes played, 7.7 FotMob rating
- One goal, three shots, three touches in opposition box
- 32 touches, 22 successful passes, three unsuccessful
- Three defensive actions, one interception, three recoveries
- Two duels won, five lost
Whether Leeds will manage to get a deal over the line for Diarra is unclear, but The Whites want him and after his performance on Tuesday night at Forest, Leeds fans are excited at the prospect of his arrival.
