Leeds United are looking for a new goalkeeper this summer but have been forced to rip up plans to sign Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, who is set to join Brentford.

It emerged over the weekend that Bayer Leverkusen had agreed a move to sign Mark Flekken from The Bees. Thomas Frank’s side have moved quickly to sign Kelleher for an initial £12.5m, rising to £18m.

The same report indicates Leeds made an enquiry over a deal for the Ireland shot-stopper. But now, The Whites will have to look elsewhere and are said to have renewed interest in Newcastle star Nick Pope.

But Kelleher and Pope are not the only goalkeepers to have been linked with Leeds this summer. Indeed, a total of nine are on the Leeds radar – and another of those nine has been placed on the transfer list.

Djordje Petrovic returns to Chelsea having won Strasbourg’s Player of the Season award under English manager Liam Rosenior. Petrovic’s future at Chelsea is very much in doubt, with a move now expected.

The Guardian claim Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for Petrovic and have placed the goalkeeper on the transfer list, along with other names including Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Trevor Chalobah.

It comes after Leeds were linked with £13.6m Petrovic since the club earned promotion. Leverkusen had also been linked with Petrovic, but their move to sign Flekken obviously ends their interest in Petrovic.

Djordje Petrovic’s 2024-25 form compared to Illan Meslier

Leeds are obviously in the market for a new goalkeeper given the form of Illan Meslier, Daniel Farke’s decision to drop him for the final seven games, and that Meslier is about to enter the last year of his deal.

Phil Hay believes Meslier is ‘done’ at Leeds even if the Frenchman was front and centre of Leeds’ parade and promotion party. Meslier was guilty for mistakes against Sunderland, Hull, Swansea and plenty more.

Leeds need a new stopper, but whether that is former New England Revolution ace Petrovic remains to be seen. It might be that Leeds want to go for a more-experienced head in the form of England man Pope.
