Joe Rodon is shaping up to potentially be Leeds United’s best centre-back signing since the club brought Ben White in on loan ahead of the 2019/20 season.
It looked to be a real coup for Leeds to bring the Welshman to Elland Road on loan from Spurs in the summer.
Joe Rodon had not had the easiest time with Tottenham. But he was playing in Ligue 1 for much of last season. So it should probably come as no surprise that he has taken little time to win a lot of admirers with his performances for Daniel Farke’s side.
Rodon is forming a really impressive partnership with Pascal Struijk. And with that, there will be optimism that he can be almost as influential as White was when he joined from Brighton four years ago.
Since then, Leeds have struggled to put together a decent centre-back pairing. Robin Koch and Diego Llorente both struggled with injury. And the pair made a number of mistakes. Meanwhile, Max Wober barely spent five minutes at the club before leaving again on loan.

Struijk seemed to lose all his confidence during the latter two years in the Premier League. And with that, Liam Cooper was probably our best centre-back across the three years in the top-flight.
Struijk and Rodon however, look to have real potential as a pairing. And that is why The Athletic‘s report this week concerning the latter’s asking price this past summer makes particularly interesting reading.
According to The Athletic, Tottenham wanted around £15 million for Rodon before then agreeing to loan him to Leeds.
With that, you have to say that the 25-year-old should be one of Leeds’ top targets next summer should we win promotion.
Tottenham’s asking price makes pursuing a permanent deal a no-brainer
Rodon is still relatively unproven in the Premier League. But he should be coming into the prime of his career. And it will make such a difference if Leeds can go back to the top-flight with an established centre-back partnership.
They will need further reinforcements if promoted. But signing Rodon for around £15 million would be a potential steal if his early season form is a sign of what is to come.
