Leeds could still sign defender they wanted in summer window as he remains a free agent

Leeds United completed their business in the transfer window on deadline day with two new additions to Daniel Farke’s side in the form of Ao Tanaka and Isaac Schmidt, but they could still add more.

While Daniel Farke got his wish following Georginio Rutter’s exit of four new signings, his desire for a new no.10 did not materialise. Farke asked for two attacking players, a full-back and a goalscoring midfielder.

He got Manor Solomon and Largie Ramazani and then Schmidt and Tanaka. It sees Leeds complete a mini rebuild, but perhaps failing to improve the quality of the squad ahead of a second Championship season.

It might be that The Whites are remaining active on the free agent market, with plenty of big names still without a club. The likes of Adrien Rabiot, Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay are still free agents.

Free agent that Leeds wanted in summer remains without a club

In the summer, Leeds are said to have expressed an interest in 33-year-old defender Michael Lang. The Switzerland international is still without a club after the transfer window following his release from Basel.

The 31-time capped player terminated his contract with Basel towards the end of July, ending his second stint with the Swiss giants after three years. A player that has played for Daniel Farke’s old side Gladbach.

Leeds are well stocked in defence, but could do with a player that is capable of playing in any position in the back line. Pascal Struijk, Junior Firpo and Sam Byram are no stranger to injury and cover is required.

Lang would be a smart signing if Leeds can tempt him

Lang is a player with huge experience, a player with 503 senior appearances for club and country. Able to play on both sides of the defence and in the middle, there is likely to be plenty of clubs chasing Lang.

Leeds brought in Schmidt and that gives Farke four options at full-back. But, Max Wober is the only senior cover at centre-back for Joe Rodon and Struijk, and bringing in another defensive body makes sense.

Leeds have shown interest in Lang and with the player still available, surely it is not impossible that Leeds consider a post-transfer window move for the free agent in the next few weeks, to bolster the ranks.
