Leeds United completed their tenth signing of the transfer window on Sunday with the addition of James Justin from Leicester City, addressing Daniel Farke’s calls for full-back competition.
A £10m deal that sees Justin sign a four-year deal, taking Leeds’ spending beyond £100m this summer without selling a senior player since the window began. Rasmus Kristensen’s exit is on this year’s books.
But none of Leeds’ 10 signings have cost more than £20m. Only three are above £15m, in Anton Stach, Noah Okafor and Lucas Perri. Two cost absolutely nothing, in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha.
Justin is a much-needed addition, and Leeds have taken advantage of the defender entering the final year of his deal by signing Justin for a smaller fee than he may have cost, had he had two or more years left.
| Name | Club signed from | Fee spent |
| Anton Stach | Hoffenheim | £19.9m |
| Noah Okafor | Milan | £18m |
| Lucas Perri | Lyon | £15.6m |
| Sean Longstaff | Newcastle | £15m |
| Jaka Bijol | Udinese | £15m |
| Gabriel Gudmundsson | Lille | £10m |
| James Justin | Leicester | £10m |
| Sebastiaan Bornauw | Wolfsburg | £5m |
| Lukas Nmecha | Wolfsburg | Free |
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin | Everton | Free |
| Total: | £108.5m |
Jeff Stelling says Leeds need a Jack Grealish-type addition
Not only have Leeds got themselves a cheap-ish deal for Justin, but they have also provided Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson with competition, rather than just back-up in Isaac Schmidt and Sam Byram.

Schmidt was expected to go but is now in limbo, with Werder Bremen set to sign Yukinara Sugawara. On Justin’s move, presenter Jeff Stelling swiped left while playing TalkSPORT’s segment Transfer Tinder.
He then went on a rant about Leeds’ business (26/08, 7.55AM): “Left, for me. James Justin has been a very good player, good enough to win England caps. But he’s struggled for form for the last couple of years.
“I’m not having a go at Justin. What I think Leeds desperately need, is a marquee signing. They’ve brought in a lot of players in for £7m, £8m, £9m, £10m,” Stelling said, which is inaccurate, though the point stands.
“They need a signing like Jack Grealish, somebody who the fans can get excited about. However well James Justin does, fans cannot get excited about signing a full-back,” Stelling said about Leeds’ business.
Who could Leeds still sign before the end of the window?
The window’s busiest period is now upon us, with six days left before Monday’s deadline. Leeds are still said to be in the market for an attacking signing and plenty of players have been linked with a move.
Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss, Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte, Strasbourg gem Dilane Bakwa and Juve playmaker Nico Gonzalez are all players that have been linked in recent days as Leeds eye another.

Completing a big-money signing at this stage of the window will be difficult, not least because Leeds are yet to rake in any transfer fees from sales this summer. But, Farke wants another and there is still time.
