Europa League player breaks silence on rumours he’s joining Leeds United

Leeds United do not know what division they will be in next season and yet, there are reports of The 49ers already doing business to sign a player from FC Porto at the end of the season.

One win in five has left Leeds fans feeling incredibly nervous as Daniel Farke’s side pursue automatic promotion to the Premier League. The Whites have let a five-point lead slip, now two points off first place.

With Leeds clear a month ago, Troy Deeney thought Farke would have wrapped it up by now. But with seven games to go, Leeds are right in the thick of it and any chance of promotion requires wins.

Despite Leeds’ uncertainty over whether it will be Premier League or Championship football next season, reports emerged that The 49ers had put a four-year deal on the table for Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi.

Zaidu Sanusi responds to reports of Leeds United offer

The 22-time Nigeria international is expected to leave Porto this summer having managed just six games for the Portuguese giants. Currently in the Europa League too, Sanusi has warmed Porto’s subs bench.

Indeed, it was claimed that Sanusi is keen on a move with a fee of less than £2m required. But Sanusi has now come out and explained that the reports are wide of the mark and he has not spoken to Leeds.

“I am not in contact with Leeds United or any team right now,” Sanusi told All Nigeria Soccer. “I am not negotiating with Leeds United and I have not been offered a four-year contract. They lied about it.”

Sanusi might be a name on Leeds’ radar, but a deal is unlikely

At least, for the time being. Leeds will not be focused on signings just yet until they know what league they will be in come 2025-26. Especially, given Angus Kinnear is leaving and Nick Hammond may follow.

Leeds do need a left-back, there is no doubt. Junior Firpo remains out of contract this summer and the Yorkshire side do need to sign a left-back – but Sanusi seems like an odd choice for Daniel Farke’s men.

Certainly, if Leeds get promoted to the Premier League then they will be able to do a whole lot better when it comes to new signings. The calibre of player will be better, but failure to go up – who knows?
