BBC journalist Adam Pope has shared an update on the future of Glen Kamara at Leeds United.

Kamara only moved to Elland Road from Rangers on a four-year-deal last summer but has already been linked with a move away after Leeds‘ failure to win promotion.

Ligue 1 side Rennes are believed to be interested in the 28-year-old, who Leeds spent £5 million on after months of speculation linking him with a move 12 months ago.

Rennes are likely to be in the market for a new midfielder this summer with Enzo Le Fee reported to be close to joining AS Roma in a deal that could be wrapped up in the coming days.

Reports from France have indicated that Kamara is someone Rennes are looking at as a potential replacement, though no formal offer has yet been received.

Pope shares Leeds stance on Kamara future this summer

Kamara established himself as a key player at Leeds last season and went onto make 42 appearances across all competitions.

Leeds have already lost one midfielder this summer in Archie Gray and if another was to depart, it would leave them desperately short in that area of the pitch.

Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev would be Leeds’ only senior recognised options in the centre of the park, both of whom are primarily holding players and don’t really work alongside each other.

Kamara and Gray were Leeds’ more box-to-box players and while not one of that quartet managed to score a single goal in the regular Championship season, it would be a strange decision to let both go.

And as such, BBC journalist Pope has confirmed that Leeds are not looking to sell Kamara this summer despite the interest from Rennes.

It will be interesting to see whether that stance changes if a decent offer came in, but Daniel Farke and Leeds will be aware that some squad continuity is needed going into next season.

Leeds would be better of selling Ilia Gruev than Kamara

Of Leeds’ midfield options, Ampadu is the one they simply cannot afford to lose given how impressive he was last season.

But if one was to leave, it would be much wiser for Leeds to lose Gruev than Kamara amid interest from Borussia Dortmund in the Bulgarian.

If Ampadu is to return into midfield as expected next season, Gruev is likely to be playing second fiddle again as a partnership of those two just doesn’t work.

Kamara and Ampadu together, on the other hand, is a much more balanced pairing.
