Leeds undoubtedly have work to do in the winter transfer window after a rocky run of late.

It is now six defeats in the last seven Premier League outings under Daniel Farke following a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday, leaving Leeds in the relegation zone on goal difference.

The 49ers should therefore be looking to bolster the squad in January, and a previous target in Conor Gallagher is now on the market as he aims to leave Atletico Madrid.

Sky Sports now report that the England international is eager to find a new club this winter to keep his World Cup hopes alive, having only made two starts in La Liga so far this season.

It is said that, of all the current 20 Premier League sides, only Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal have not shown interest in Gallagher – either in the past or in this present moment.

Atletico Madrid would prefer to keep the 25-year-old, but if he does end up forcing an exit, he will have a price tag of around £35m.

Gallagher is also understood to prefer playing European football, but ultimately, game time is his main aim as he tries to claim a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

While Sky Sports say Leeds are admirers of Gallagher, we feel The 49ers would be wasting precious time if they try to sign him this winter.

For a start, Leeds have little need for another central midfielder, with Ao Tanaka already missing out on the starting XI right now under Farke.

Furthermore, Leeds only really have a chance of signing Gallagher if Atletico Madrid sanction a loan exit, unless significant sales are made – there is little room for manoeuvre in the way of PSR right now.

Not only that, but it would also require serious persuasion, given the fact the Londoner wants to continue playing European football.

There are more realistic options for Leeds to target this winter – such as Kobbie Mainoo – so while Gallagher is understandably admired, it should be left at that.
