£23k-a-week left-back rejects Besiktas and is now set for Championship move after links with Leeds

A left-back on Leeds United’s radar has reportedly rejected a move to Turkish giants Besiktas and a move to The Championship now looks on the cards with Leeds battling a rival for his signature.

Leeds are likely to be in the market for a new left-back this summer with The Whites lacking in options either side of the defence. Daniel Farke have waved goodbye to a whole host of full-back this summer.

Connor Roberts has returned to Burnley, while Jamie Shackleton, Rasmus Kristensen, Luke Ayling and Archie Gray have all left. It leaves Leeds with just three options to cover both right-back and left-back.

Even then, Firpo could end up departing given his contract is due to expire next summer. Currently, Jayden Bogle and Firpo are first choice in either side of the back four, with Sam Byram acting as cover.

Leeds are interested in signing left-back from Serie A side

One player Leeds have been linked with is AC Milan defender Fode Ballo-Toure. The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Fulham in the Premier League, but only played eight games for Marco Silva’s side.

Despite his lack of game time at Fulham and clearly Milan’s lack of need for the 16-time Senegal star, £23k-a-week Ballo-Toure does boast an impressive CV which includes Lille, Monaco, PSG and Milan.

But having entered the final year of his contract at Milan, he looks set to be on the move and add another club to that illustrious list of sides. Leeds are interested in being the next chapter in Ballo-Toure’s contract.

A report from Calcio Mercato claims he has turned down the chance to join Turkish side Bestikas, despite Milan and the SuperLig side agreeing a financial package for the left-back and now, England looks likely.

Indeed, it is said that Ballo-Toure is now set for a move to the second tier of English football with Leeds among his suitors. However, Leeds are not winning the race with Watford, ‘above all’, trying to sign him.

It will be interesting to see if Leeds act on their interest in the African, but with his deal due to expire next summer and his chances of game time at Milan all but zero, it is likely Ballo-Toure will be on the move.
