He added, “I started with a new dream – to take Leeds into the Premier League and play in the Premier League. I’m really proud of my career.”

Gaetano Berardi’s emotional Elland Road farewell
Gaetano Berardi’s final home game at Elland Road was an emotional one. In May 2021, against West Bromwich Albion, he was given a hero’s farewell alongside fellow club legend Pablo Hernandez.
With around 8,000 fans returning to the stadium for the first time in over a year, Berardi was given a starting spot by manager Marcelo Bielsa.
He was substituted in the 70th minute to a heartfelt standing ovation from the crowd. The moment was especially poignant as he reflected on the support he received during his career, particularly during difficult times with injuries.
This farewell was a fitting tribute to his passion and dedication to the club, which made him a fan favourite despite his often-fiery temperament.

Gaetano Berardi’s controversial red card
Another notable incident was a controversial red card Berardi received in a home match against Cardiff City in February 2018.
The sending-off came just before halftime, as he was shown a second yellow card. This led to a free-kick from which Cardiff scored, extending their lead to 3-0.
The red card was particularly significant as it was his fifth for Leeds at the time and contributed to a difficult period for the club, who had received four red cards in five games.
While his fiery nature sometimes led to such incidents, it was also a reflection of his fierce commitment and desire to win, which ultimately endeared him to the Leeds United faithful.
