New Leeds kit: Whites’ top five from the last decade; 20/21 pair included

Leeds United’s new away kit may have been leaked, with photos showing a yellow number doing the rounds on social media.

The release of the new kit is a key moment in the calendar as fans look forward to the new campaign. And certainly, the new season cannot come soon enough after what happened this past term.

A good kit can build the excitement further. Meanwhile, a poor offering can play its part in optimism evaporating before a ball has even been kicked.

With that in mind, here is our top five Leeds kits from the last decade…

Will the promotion-winning season receive any recognition? Could a home shirt really break in when there is only really one colour to work with? Will any of the Macron strips make the cut?

No, actually. Definite no to that last one.

5) Third kit 2018/19

Leeds had a strong selection in Marcelo Bielsa’s first season at Elland Road. But the pick of the bunch was the yellow third kit.

Most famously worn when we came back from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa, the white and blue on the sleeves was a touch of genius.

Leeds were not in a good place in 2015/16. But there was something incredibly classy about the home and away kit from that season. It was the first year with Kappa. And not having a sponsor made the kit look so smart.

3) Away kit 2019/20

Okay, I am sticking my neck on the line for the platinum and pink kit. But I must admit that there has been a row inside LUN Towers about how nice this kit was.

Pablo Hernandez sparked the season into life with the brilliant goal at Bristol City on the opening day wearing the shirt. And soon after, he provided one of the best assists you will ever see in the win at Stoke, wearing the kit.

The goal against Swansea that sent us up, yes, wearing that kit. And guess what we were wearing for the oh so satisfying guard of honour at Pride Park.

Striking. Controversial. Stunning.

One of the moments which made promotion feel real was the launch of the new kits. A partnership with Adidas had begun, and it started incredibly strong.

The home kit looked superb. And it certainly helps that we played some amazing football wearing it.

Honourable mentions

There will be some favourites not included. Certainly, the lilac number this past season will be forever synonymous with the final day with Brentford. And both of the home kits from Bielsa’s first two seasons were excellent.

Unfortunately, the gold kit used between 2012 and 2014 just missed out – by some distance.

The clear winner is the green and black away kit from 2020/21. Everything about it screamed class. Leeds were back in the big time, and they were doing it in absolute style.

No moment symbolised the kit more than that gorgeous pass from Kalvin Phillips at Burnley, of all places, in the build-up to our fourth goal that day.
