Leeds have a lot of transfer targets for the winter transfer window, but not enough money to sign them all.
PSR issues will limit what the 49ers can do in the market, with The Athletic feeling loan deals are most likely for Leeds. Some cheap permanent deals could be struck, as Leeds consider Danilho Doekhi – who only has six months left on his contract with Union Berlin.
Josh Mulligan is another admired by Leeds, but the Daily Mail have now revealed a detail which could see Celtic sign the Hibernian star ahead of Daniel Farke.
Leeds United happy to wait for Josh Mulligan but Celtic are lurking
The Daily Mail now state that Leeds really like the Scotland U21 international, but with finances restricted due to the PSR situation, a summer deal is preferred by those at Elland Road.
Do YOU want Leeds to sign Josh Mulligan in January?
He seems like a genuine wonderkid 😍
It comes after a separate story from the Daily Mail claimed that Celtic are showing an interest in Mulligan now, as Hibernian prepare to fend off bids for the 23-year-old.
We can see why Leeds prefer to wait, as the Hibernian No.20 plays in central midfield – an area Farke already has six options to choose from in Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach, Ao Tanaka, Brenden Aaronson, Sean Longstaff and Ilia Gruev.
However, Mulligan – who has been likened to Gareth Bale – is too talented a prospect to risk missing out on to Celtic.
The man born in Dundee can play anywhere in midfield and also as a right wing-back, a role Leeds now need to focus on bolstering after switching to a 3-5-2 formation.
Furthermore, Mulligan is delivering despite his lack of experience and also while being used in several different positions, scoring three goals and providing five assists in 28 appearances this season.
Leeds United should attempt to sign Josh Mulligan and loan him back
As aforesaid, it would be a shame to lose out on Mulligan – who has also been compared to John McGinn – by running the risk of waiting for a summer deal.
Not only could Celtic swoop in before then, but waiting until the summer also runs the risk of Hibernian increasing their asking price. Mulligan recently earned a call to the Scotland squad by Steve Clarke, and an impressive World Cup campaign would surely see his value soar.

The likes of Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto are struggling to force their way into Farke's plans.
Therefore, it would be worth the 49ers trying to wrap up an agreement now, either a permanent deal before loaning him back to Hibernian, or some form of pre-contract move where Leeds can pay for the deal in the summer while the versatile prospect sees out the season in Scotland.
Simply waiting until the summer to start negotiations, however, is a huge gamble, and may encourage Celtic to swoop in now.
