Marcelo Bielsa’s future as Uruguay manager has plunged into doubt after the November break, with the Leeds United icon calling a press conference to face the criticism head-on.

After a 5-1 loss to Mauricio Pochettino’s United States, Uruguay are not in a good way ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Bielsa has come in for criticism from Uruguayan media, supporters, and even some players.

Leeds United legend Marcelo Bielsa could be on the market after the World Cup. Is the time right for him to come back to Elland Road?

There is a suggestion that the Uruguayan players are not putting in the required effort when called up by Bielsa. Ultimately, the buck stops with the manager. In his last 18 games, Bielsa has only won five times.

While Bielsa refused to resign in his press conference on Thursday, there is every chance he will leave his post as Uruguay manager after the World Cup. That is when Leeds United absolutely have to take action.

Reports say Marcelo Bielsa could make Premier League return

With Bielsa’s future in doubt, reports state that Premier League clubs are eyeing the former Marseille, Lille and Bilbao manager. It is said that after the last week, top-tier English sides are on alert regarding Bielsa.

His time at Leeds remains fresh in the memory for many Premier League boards, and if he does become available after the World Cup, there is every chance that some will make a move to lure Bielsa back.

For Leeds fans, to see Bielsa in a rival dugout will be painful. However, with Daniel Farke’s position as Leeds gaffer in doubt, there have also been plenty of Leeds fans pleading for the club to re-hire Bielsa.

Relegated or not, Leeds must make Marcelo Bielsa move

At the end of 2022-23, fans had become disconnected with the club. There was a lethargy between fans and club, understandably, given the mess that Jesse Marsch’s direction had driven the club into.

Farke’s pragmatic approach has reconnected supporters somewhat, but there are still sections that do not believe he is the man for Leeds. Especially, since the club have lost four of their last five league matches.

Leeds need a manager who is going to reconnect the fans to the club in a way that gets every Leeds fan in love with their club again, like Bielsa did, working miracles, guiding them to 9th in the Premier League.

Relegated or not, fans have become detached from the club in the same way they did during Marsch’s era. Leeds need a man to reconnect the club’s biggest weapon, the home support, and that man is Bielsa.
