Leeds United fans have sent a clear message to the club after it was confirmed that Sam Greenwood has left Elland Road after five years.
Sam Greenwood joined Leeds from Sunderland in the summer of 2020 and made a total of 35 appearances for the first team, scoring his only goal in a dramatic 4-3 comeback over Bournemouth in 2022.
However, Greenwood has now left to join Polish side Pogon Szczecin, with Leeds receiving a reported fee of £3.5 million.
Greenwood is the first of several players who are expected to leave Leeds in the coming days, with Patrick Bamford, Illan Meslier, Isaac Schmidt and Valencia-bound Largie Ramazani all deemed surplus to requirements by Daniel Farke.
However, Leeds fans’ minds are firmly focused on incomings, as they sent a clear message to the club following the announcement of Greenwood’s departure.

Leeds United fans make transfer demand following the departure of Sam Greenwood
Posting on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) after Greenwood’s departure was announced, several Leeds fans wished the striker-turned-midfielder luck for his next move.
However, there was a distinct message to the Leeds management in the responses, as fans took the opportunity to demand new signings, as one fan wrote: “We’ve currently spent just £15m on our entire front line. It’s currently no stronger than it was in the championship.
“Do you think we’ll stay up with such poor recruitment in the attacking areas?”
Another fan pleaded with the club to bring in some new, exciting talent in a post which said: “Why do we always sign players who are just solid? Why do we seem to hate any player with a personality, or players that can excite, especially young ones?”
This view was echoed by another fan who urged Leeds to sign a striker, stating: “Deals in your sleep… how about we wake up and buy a striker.”
Several Leeds fans took the chance to vent their frustration following the defeat against Sheffield Wednesday, as another added: “Great. Now get rid of Aaronsson, Piroe, Gruev, Harrison, Meslier, Bamford, Gyabi and Schmidt”
One fan summed up the overriding feeling among the Leeds fanbase in a short post, which stated: “Now sign 4 attackers.”
Dead-ball specialist never lived up to his potential at Leeds
With Greenwood’s departure, another relic of Victor Orta’s reign as Leeds’ Sporting Director leaves the club, which continues to wrestle with his transfer legacy.
Greenwood was undoubtedly a player of great potential, whose proficiency from dead-balls was an attractive prospect for Leeds.
There was a clamour for him to be introduced into the first team as Leeds struggled under Jesse Marsch, fuelled by his 22 goals in 43 appearances for the under-21s.
However, Greenwood failed to establish himself as a Leeds regular and now leaves the club on a permanent deal.
