Leeds United facing potential race against the clock which could cost owners millions in transfer market

Leeds United may well be facing a race against the clock to reach the Premier League, and make millions on a certain player.

Leeds United will once again try and break out of the Championship under Danie Farke, after falling at the final hurdle last season.

But there remains a huge sense of positivity at Elland Road. And Leeds would’ve claimed a vital win last time out, but for Illan Meslier’s costly error against Sunderland.

For this month’s international break, Farke finds his side in 5th place of the Championship table and three points behind leaders Sunderland.

This break will be a good chance for players to rest and recover, and a good chance to others to keep up their match fitness.

Joe Rodon featured for Wales on Thursday night but didn’t impress all that much, whilst Mateo Joseph has been in action for Spain U21s.

The 20-year-old scored a hat-tick against Kazakhstan U21s, following what’s been a solid start to the season with Leeds.

Now with Joseph announcing him on the international stage, could interest soon emerge in the Leeds academy gem?

What’s been said about Mateo Joseph future at Leeds United

Leeds are yet to entertain any serious interest in Joseph. But Farke still has a slight concern about what might happen in January.

Farke hailed the youngster’s abilities but said that, if he had some more goals to his name by now, he’d be more worried about what might happen in January.

“If he would be there next to his top performances already with seven, eight, nine goals under his belt, I would be even more worried about January, if I’m honest,” Farke said at the start of this month.

And just as recently, it’s been suggested in Spain that Joseph would be a suitable transfer target for Sevilla and Victor Orta, though the chances of a possible Sevilla swoop for Joseph were deemed unlikely.

With Joseph impressing on the club and international stage, transfer interest of any level may soon be inevitable, especially with January rapidly approaching.

And for Leeds, it could mark the start of a race against the clock to earn promotion, and make sure they get full value for Joseph.

Premier League status surely boosts Mateo Joseph transfer value

The difference in quality and resources between the Premier League an Championship is huge, as Leeds well know.

In the transfer market, a player being a Premier League player or a Championship player makes a huge different to his price tag.

When a club is in the top flight, they can hold out for more money, having more themselves, and up the transfer value as much as they want.

Championship teams are much more likely to settle for, and to be offered less, because they have less.

So for Leeds and the club’s owners, whilst being a Championship team with more backing behind them than most, when they reach the Premier League soon seems as though it could dictate Joseph’s future, and his eventual price tag.

For now, he remains under contract at Elland Road until 2028, and he’s still got a lot of room for improvement which could keep him in Yorkshire for the foreseeable yet.
