Leeds United could soon have their own Morgan Rogers, Lee Hendrie agrees

Leeds United are expected to be in the market for new attacking midfielders this summer, with Daniel Farke explaining why the club needed another no.10 as early as January.

The stats prove it, too. Brenden Aaronson started 44 of 46 Championship games last season, missing only the first two in which he came on as a sub. Ultimately, he was only picked due to a lack of competition.

Leeds have no other natural no.10, as Farke explained back in the winter window. Leeds failed to make any signings and the issue remains this summer, with Leeds linked plenty of options already, at this stage.

Man City’s James McAtee, Sheffield United star and Championship Player of the Season Gustavo Hamer and Gabriel Sara are all names touted with Leeds. Now, Middlesbrough’s Finn Azaz has been linked.

Lee Hendrie excited by Finn Azaz amid Leeds United interest

The Ireland international’s rise continues. His loan at Plymouth was excellent, earning a move to The Riverside in January 2024 and since then, Azaz has become renowned as one of the Championship’s best.

This season, Azaz had a hand in 23 goals in 45 Championship games – as many goal involvements as Manor Solomon and even more than Dan James. Lee Hendrie is expecting big things from the no.10.

Speaking to FLW, Hendrie backed Azaz to become as good as Aston Villa sensation Morgan Rogers who has just enjoyed a stellar season for Azaz’s old side both domestically, and in the Champions League.

“I’ve got great expectations of Finn Azaz. Being more involved and playing in a more central area, he can follow a similar path to what Morgan Rogers has done. It is just down to positioning to find his success.”

Having impressed in League Two, then League One and now the Championship over the last three years, Azaz’s rise is something Leeds need to take advantage of. This player is only one going in one direction.

While the gap between the Championship and Premier League is widening, Azaz has shown he can go up a level and shine. In fact, he has got even better with every step up the leagues he has made so far.

If Leeds need a no.10 to rival Aaronson as well as bringing in a set-piece specialist with Joe Rothwell going, then Azaz is the perfect summer signing. It is unclear what Boro would want, but it is a no-brainer.
