Jose Mourinho may just have revived Leeds United bringing midfielder back to the Premier League

Leeds United have been linked with other midfield options to bolster their engine room ahead of the Premier League campaign.

The likes of Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka, and Ilia Gruev are the only first-team options available to Daniel Farke at Leeds United currently.

Leeds have been linked with several midfielders so far this summer, including Habib Diarra and Sean Longstaff. However, recent reports have revealed how Leeds are in the race to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus.

It’s also understood that Juve are ready to take a financial hit on Luiz after they paid £42 million to sign him last summer, with £30 million the potential asking price this time round.

Jose Mourinho’s move for Jadon Sancho could help Leeds to sign Douglas Luiz

Since, Leeds supporters have given their verdict on Luiz and they’re getting excited by the possibility that the Brazilian international could be playing his football at Elland Road next season.

Luiz could be a part of a dream Leeds midfield next season if they can somehow secure the services of the former Aston Villa and Manchester City man.

Frustratingly, Man United have also been linked to Luiz and a deal will definitely be difficult to complete, given how ambitious the move is.

The deal that the Red Devils are proposing is a potential swap involving Jadon Sancho, with the Englishman out of favour at Old Trafford.

However, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are also keen on Sancho and that could complicate a deal to bring Luiz in without a player going the other way to Juventus.

The interest from the Turkish giants comes via Mike McGrath of The Telegraph. He states that Devin Özek, the sporting director, is currently looking at Premier League targets — including Sancho.

Fenerbahce have discussed Sancho as a signing but a deal would involve negotiations over whether the deal is permanent or a loan. Man United would be expected to pay a percentage of Sancho’s wages.

Juventus may not be able to match these demands, thus meaning Leeds could have an easier run at Luiz in the process.

Douglas Luiz would be Leeds’ best player and a statement of intent

Of course, signing Luiz is not guaranteed; it would, however, be a huge statement of intent as to how Leeds view themselves in 2025/26.

Ambitious ‘reach’ signings have been detailed by Graham Smyth and those are being looked at as the early signings of the window before padding out the other areas of the team.

Luiz has not played regularly or done particularly well in Turin so far, but he would be an outstanding addition into the team’s spine.

Capable of operating as a box-to-box midfielder or as a more defensive-minded player at the base of midfield, the 27-year-old shone for Aston Villa.

A loan or a £30 million deal would be one of the best Leeds make this summer, if they can get it over the line in the coming weeks ahead of the competition.
