How Leeds United could line-up with Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson starting in new formation

The biggest surprise of the window for Leeds United so far has to be the return of both Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson from their loans, and being reintegrated by Daniel Farke.

Coming into the summer, it was expected that The 49ers would look to move on every single player that used Victor Orta’s loan clause leave after relegation. But both Aaronson and Wober have returned now.

Aaronson is the one that makes sense. Still young at 23, Aaronson cost £25m and while he struggled in his first season and then at Union and if The Whites tried to sell, it would be a hefty loss in terms of cash.

With the American still boasting plenty of potential, it is understandable that Aaronson has been kept at Leeds especially with Daniel Farke’s side needing a no.10. With Wober, it is a slightly different situation.

How Leeds may line-up with Wober and Aaronson included

Wober, 26, went to Gladbach and did well, following that up with a decent-enough showing at Euro 2024 after a poor start against France. Wober has returned to Leeds because Gladbach couldn’t afford him.

He is involved but given he left Leeds at the drop of a hat last term, who is to say that won’t happen this time round? Against Harrogate, Aaronson and Wober were not involved but Farke did change system.

He used a back three, with Ethan Ampadu and James Debayo either side of Joe Rodon. Dan James and Junior Firpo at wing-back, but how could that look if both Wober and Aaronson are included in the side?

Wober and Aaronson could be crucial to Leeds during 2024-24

At Leeds’ best, Wober would surely start in the middle of a back three with Rodon and Pascal Struijk either side. Firpo and Jayden Bogle as wing-backs either side of a midfield three and then two strikers up top.

Joe Rothwell could be a more attacking version of Glen Kamara and given the license to do so, given the three defenders behind him. Ethan Ampady would return to anchor Farke’s men as a defensive screen.

In front of them, USA star Aaronson gives Leeds the natural no.10 the Whites missed last season. Up top, Georginio Rutter and possible Crysencio Summerville if the Dutchman remains at Elland Road this term.
