Five Leeds United youngsters that could break in next season

Mateo Joseph

The most-obvious one is Joseph, who scored a brace against Chelsea last term. As Patrick Bamford gets older and struggles to shake off the injuries, and Joel Piroe was largely indifferent, a new striker is needed.

Phil Hay recently predicted that 20-year-old Joseph would have a larger role next term, and surely next season the youngster will start to be used from the off and get a real chance to showcase his huge talent.

Charlie Crew

The 17-year-old midfielder is yet to make his professional club debut, but the talented youngster has been called up to the Wales squad for this summer’s friendlies alongside Ethan Ampadu and Dan James.

Crew is a part of the first team set-up under Farke now, having been on the bench for games against Watford, Hull and QPR towards the end of the season. Ampadu is “excited” by the prospect of the teen.

Diogo Monteiro

Bought from Swiss side Servette in January 2023, 19-year-old Monteiro is yet to make his senior debut at Leeds. But the £1m addition was a key player for the club’s U21 side this season, even captaining them.

Monteiro’s footballing ability has also seen him play in midfield and given Liam Cooper and Joe Rodon look set to leave, Leeds will need a centre-back. Portugal’s U19 captain has a big chance to get a game.

Charlie Allen

The 20-year-old made his first step towards first-team football at Leeds by going on loan to York during the second half of the season, after having a hand in five goals in 11 games for the 21’s beforehand.

A Northern Ireland U21 playmaker with eight caps and linked with a senior role, Allen could help solve the lack of options in the no.10 role if Leeds do not make any signings during the summer window.

Cian Coleman

Still only 19 and an Ireland U19 international, versatile midfielder Coleman has been ever-present for the U21 side this term. He played 16 times in Premier League 2 for Leeds, even captaining the second string.

Coleman has impressed with his hard-working abilities and passing, and Coleman could now provide some much-needed first-team cover in the middle of the park with Archie Gray and Ampadu in defence.
