Farke should use 20-year-old Leeds youngster at Chelsea; he was ‘fantastic’ last time he started

There is going to be a lot interest in the team Daniel Farke selects for Leeds United’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Chelsea on Wednesday.

Of course, adding to Mauricio Pochettino’s woes would be fantastic. And thus, some may be hoping to see a full-strength side named by Farke. But clearly, the priority for Leeds is getting out of the Championship at the first attempt. So changes are likely.

It seems to be a safe bet to assume that Farke will stick with a core of his key men – the likes of Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and Glen Kamara – while potentially surrounding them with some figures closer to the fringes of the squad.

Mateo Joseph should get chance to start for Leeds against Chelsea

One player who may be contention to come into the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge is Mateo Joseph, with the 20-year-old starting the replay in the previous round away at Plymouth Argyle.

Joseph did not score in the 4-1 win. But he definitely gave a good account of himself at Home Park, nearly breaking the deadlock with a thunderous strike early on.

Jermaine Beckford noted that Joseph was fantastic against Plymouth. So perhaps it would be the right call to see what he could do up against the Blues’ defence on Wednesday.

Whites will welcome another attacker adding to Daniel Farke’s selection dilemmas

It would be a big call. The likes of Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford will be hoping to get the nod against Premier League opposition. But Joseph has the talent to cause Chelsea some problems himself. And Farke will have the option to bring one of his more experienced teammates off the bench at some stage.

Leeds are heading into a crucial period in the season. And it would be a big boost if they had yet another attacking player in form.

Perhaps Wednesday is the perfect time to give Joseph the stage again to show what he can do.
