Rodrigo has told Spanish newspaper AS that he is open to returning to Valencia in the future from Leeds United – but made it clear that he is currently happy at Elland Road, where he has a contract until the summer of 2024.
Rodrigo, 31, has been in excellent form this season. He has netted nine goals in 13 Premier League matches, and five in his last four outings. While he struggled on Thursday night against Elche, he is expected to start against Man City.
But his long-term future is beginning to emerge as a bit of a question mark. The Spain international is our top earner, with Salary Sport reporting he is on £100,000 a week. But, is the length remaining on his current deal at Elland Road.
The chances are, he is not going to bring in a big transfer fee given his age. By the time his contract expires, he will be 33. It might be that Leeds need to hand him a new deal, or consider a sale at the end of the season, next summer.
“I’ve always had a special affection for Valencia and its fans,” he told AS. “We achieved important things in the years I was there, and I am very fond of the city, on a personal and professional level.
“My daughter was born in Valencia, and I spent most of my career there. Going back? You never know what the future might bring. Right now, I’m very happy at Leeds and fully focused on our objectives.”

Rodrigo has been superb for us and he deserves Leeds to show him some kind of reward. Jesse Marsch is finally getting the best out of a player that Marcelo Bielsa failed to do during his tenure – playing him in his natural position.
Do we offer him a new deal – and what would that look like? Well, a year or two extension on top of his current expiry in 2024 would make sense. But Rodrigo, after what would be four years when his contract ends, may fancy a change.
