Chris Sutton has predicted Leeds United to take a point from their trip to West Ham United on Sunday.

The former Celtic and Chelsea striker gave his verdict in his latest BBC Sport predictions column, where he also claimed a draw might not be enough for the Whites in their survival bid.

Leeds currently sit 18th in the Premier League table and one point adrift of Everton in safety, and will be looking for a win that could put safety in their hands heading into the final day.

That said, the relegation picture will look a lot clearer on Saturday night for Leeds after Everton and Nottingham Forest have faced Wolves and Arsenal respectively.

Sutton predicts Leeds to earn point at West Ham

Leeds will be hoping they can take advantage of some tired legs on Sunday after West Ham beat AZ Alkmaar in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League in the Netherlands last night.

Sam Allardyce has certainly made Leeds harder to beat in his first two outings as manager but with so little time left in the season, wins are needed.

Sutton, though, thinks it may well be too little too late for Leeds and can’t see them earning anymore than a point in the capital.

He said: “West Ham are essentially safe now – Southampton and Leicester cannot catch them and, while Leeds can still finish level with them on points, it would take a big swing in goal difference for Sam Allardyce’s side to go above them.

“So, Hammers boss David Moyes has been quite entitled to focus on his side’s Europa Conference League semi-final with his team selections in the past week or so, even if it has meant they have lost four of their past five Premier League games.

“I know what Big Sam is trying to do at Leeds, but he was given such a short space of time to make a difference that appointing him was a massive gamble.

“Leeds have only won two away league games all season and they probably won’t try to play much football here. The plan will be to keep West Ham out and try to nick this.

“Will it work? No, I don’t think so. I can see them getting another draw, which is not what they need. Prediction: West Ham 0-0 Leeds.

It is a difficult one to predict as you just don’t know what sort of side David Moyes is going to put out after their exploits in Alkmaar.

That said, Leeds really could not have asked for a better time to face the Hammers and so a win here is pretty much imperative to put them in a decent position on the final day.
