June 15 is going to long be remembered as a key date in Leeds United’s history, with the announcement being made on this date four years ago that we had appointed Marcelo Bielsa.

Speaking personally, I fear – at the age of 29 – that I may have already seen the departure of the best manager Leeds will have in my lifetime.

Bielsa took us from mid-table mediocrity in the Championship to the top-half of the Premier League. I was in the camp of supporters who reluctantly felt that it was best for everyone – including the great man himself – to make a change this past season.

Obviously, it was not a departure befitting of the tenure Bielsa enjoyed. But with Leeds staying up, his legacy most definitely remains in tact. And there are now hundreds of thousands of new widows of Bielsa in the world.

For many, Bielsa’s next appointment is going to dictate who their new second club is going to be going forward. They may not have to wait too much longer to learn his next destination.

Widows of Bielsa set to find new love

According to reports from Spain, Athletic Bilbao presidential candidate Iñaki Arechabaleta wants to appoint Bielsa should he win the upcoming election.

In fact, it is claimed that he may announce the plans to give Bielsa the job ahead of the vote in the hope of convincing others to back him.

Bielsa, of course, is no stranger to the Basque club. It was his spell with Athletic which showed many in Europe just how special the Argentinian is.

It would be incredibly exciting if the 66-year-old did return for another stint in Spain. He can certainly expect a strong show of support from these shores.

The widows of Bielsa may be about to find love again. Hopefully, it proves to be just as beautiful.
