Why Jayden Bogle and Joe Rodon were seen ‘going mad’ at their Leeds United teammates vs Middlesbrough

Tuesday night saw a different side of Leeds United with Daniel Farke’s side have to show a defensive rearguard to swerve a late Middlesbrough onslaught and secure a 1-0 away win.

It should have been so much more comfortable. Dan James’ opener on two minutes got Leeds on their way and Ao Tanaka scored a second, only for linesman Darren Williams to incorrectly flag for offside.

Patrick Bamford scored another late on after a quick and incisive Leeds break, but again Williams called it offside. It was also onside and Mark Clattenburg has hammered Williams for his ‘unforgivable’ errors.

With just a one-goal lead, Middlesbrough piled the pressure on in search of an equaliser with Michael Carrick’s men looking to finish in the play-offs. However, Leeds remained defensively stern throughout.

Joe Rodon and Jayden Bogle caught screaming at Leeds players

Indeed, Boro were limited to one big chance – Delano Burgzorg smashing an effort on the angle, but luckily for Leeds the big frame of Karl Darlow stood tall and the ball bounced off the stopper’s chest.

A big win, but the Leeds defence were tested and put under pressure. Graham Smyth reported on X midway through the game that Jayden Bogle was “going mad” at Ao Tanaka after he lost some duels.

He said: “45 – Bogle going mad at Tanaka I think. Lost out in a number of duels in the one sequence of play and Bogle forced into a foul on the right. Free-kick that will be swung into the area.”

After full-time, Smyth reported on the Evening Post’s website that Joe Rodon – who is characteristically loud and demanding of his teammates – was screaming at the Leeds attackers to do more pressing.

Leeds United’s remaining fixtures as Whites return to the top

Five games to go and Leeds are back in the driving seat. Not only do Leeds sit in first again, but Gary Lineker says Leeds have the ‘favour’ because Sheffield United and Burnley have got to play each other.

It was a huge night for Leeds as The Whites ended a poor run of three consecutive draws and just one win in six, while Burnley were held to a 0-0 draw at Derby and Sheffield United lost a second in a row.

Next up for Leeds is Preston at Elland Road, a game in which The Whites will be expected to win despite drawing away from home. Then, it is a trip to Oxford United before Stoke, Bristol City and then Plymouth.
