Glen Kamara became Leeds United’s fifth signing of the summer on Thursday night.
The Whites finally ended the longest running saga of the summer by pushing the button on a £5 million deal from Rangers, putting pen-to-paper on a four-year-deal.
Kamara was the second midfield addition of the day on Thursday, following on from the arrival of Ilia Gruev from Werder Bremen, who joined for a similar fee.
Both will be competing alongside each other and Archie Gray for a place alongside Ethan Ampadu in Leeds’ midfield, but Kamara may find himself a bit behind the others based on his pre-season.
The 27-year-old played no part in any of Rangers’ pre-season or opening few competitive matches of the season, and was told to train away from the rest of the squad.
International break has arrived at perfect time for Leeds’ Kamara
As such, Kamara is going to be seriously behind the rest of his Leeds teammates in terms of match fitness, which is why the international break could well have come at the best possible time for him.
Kamara has been named in Finland’s squad for their upcoming EURO 2024 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Denmark, both of which are crucial.
Leeds’ new signing is a vital player for his national team and even won their 2022 player of the year, which would suggest he is almost certain to play a heavy part in both matches.
Finland currently sit top of their qualifying group but Kazakhstan and Denmark are in second and third respectively, which makes this international window potentially make or break.
This would mean when Kamara returns to Leeds his match sharpness will be at a much better level than they are now, and therefore ready to make an impact for the trip to Millwall.
