Leeds United have posted a video of Ethan Ampadu‘s first day on the club’s official site and it includes a FaceTime from new chairman Paraag Marathe, while the Wales star undergoing his medical. Marathe was delighted to get him.

Ampadu, 22, joins for a fee of £7m plus add-ons taking a deal to a potential £10m. He has signed a four-year deal, with the option of another year. It comes after four successive loans away from Chelsea, and had 12 months left.

The 44-time Wales star eases the lack of options in midfield. Marc Roca, Weston McKennie and Adam Forshaw have all left the club this summer, though Forshaw could still re-sign. He can also play on the right side of centre-back.

Now, Leeds have posted a video of Ampadu’s first day – including his medical, and then a training session the next day. While undergoing a medical with club doctor Rishi Dhand, Ampadu and Marathe shared a FaceTime phone call.

“I’m excited to have you here, you are the first signing of the new era. When they write this story, book 10 years from now and they go to the first chapter and ask who was the first signing of the new dawn of Leeds United, it is you.”

It is exciting times. Marathe has already given an interview to the club’s podcast with Matt Lewis. He spoke with enthusiasm and excitement. It looks as if the club will spend big this summer, ahead of the opener on August 6.

Time is running out but Ampadu is a wonderful start, especially with Leeds in need of players on the right side of central defence – and in midfield. Hopefully, Leeds can have a few more additions before we play host to Cardiff.
