Marcelo Bielsa is preparing his Uruguay side to take on his home nation Argentina in the early hours of Friday morning – and below, is a video of the gaffer signing a Leeds United shirt on Uruguay duty.
Bielsa is impressing as Uruguay manager after four wins in his first six games, including a 2-0 win over Brazil last time out. He faces a tricky international break, starting with the nation he used to manage.
A country of which he originates, and he is deemed a legend with one of their biggest clubs in the form of Newell’s Old Boys – the Stadium being named after him. Bielsa’s Uruguay side are in excellent form.
Of course, Bielsa remains a Leeds legend having ended a 16-year stay in the Championship back in 19-20 – winning the division, and then a ninth-placed season in our first season back in the Premier League.
It has been slightly over 18 months since Bielsa was sacked by Leeds in February 2022. Five managers have since taken to the dugout but Bielsa’s love for Leeds remains – proven, by signing a Leeds shirt.

A video has been posted on ESPN’s Sports Center Twitter account as Uruguay arrived in Buenos Aires to take on Argentina at midnight, British time. Stepping off the plane, Bielsa took the time to greet fans.
One of those fans was wearing a Newell’s Old Boys shirt, while handing Bielsa a Leeds home shirt for the manager to sign – which he did. Once again, Bielsa showing his affection towards the Yorkshire club.
Clearly, Leeds fans still love Bielsa just as much as Bielsa holds Leeds close to his heart. Only recently, a handful of Leeds fans travelled to Uruguay in the recent international break. A tough test, next up.
