Leeds United smashed Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road and Patrick Bamford entered the field of play on 79 minutes – and Leeds Live shares what Leeds fans did upon his entrance.

The narrative surrounding Bamford this week has not been a good one. The England international has put himself under the spotlight again after missing a penalty against Stoke, who then went on to win.

On Saturday, Bamford was given the final 15 minutes or so with Leeds cruising to a comfortable win over Huddersfield. The striker has been the subject of enormous criticism for deciding to take the penalty.

And then, the subsequent miss. But, there are also sections of the fanbase that are still defending the Leeds striker and on Saturday, they were in full voice. They sung Bamford’s name as he came on for us.

“When he eventually made his entrance there was a smattering of audible boos. What’s more important, however, was the overwhelming response. His name was sung in direct response to that negativity.”

What Leeds fans did when Patrick Bamford came on, on Saturday

Bamford has been a great servant to Leeds over the years. Yes, there has been criticism of him but it must be remembered that he scored plenty of goals in our promotion – and then, in the Premier League.

The striker has scored lots of goals for Leeds – and has since picked up a whole load of injuries. He might now be past his best but he continues to turn up and work hard for Leeds, and take responsibility.

He might have got it wrong on Wednesday and there is no doubt that while Bamford remains an asset to Leeds, he won’t be taking penalties. But, the striker still has plenty to offer for the Yorkshire outfit.
