Willy Gnonto was the match-winner for Leeds United in the 1-0 win over Bristol City tonight.
Gnonto was the man chosen to replace the injured Dan James ahead of Jaidon Anthony, despite the latter’s excellent goal against Plymouth Argyle last weekend.
But that proved to be the right decision as Gnonto produced his best performance in a long time, with his goal just after half-time the difference between the two sides in a dominant performances by the Whites.
Gnonto has had a difficult time of it as of late and looked visibly upset following his withdrawal against Plymouth in the FA Cup, as he was well below the levels he has shown in the past.
And clearly his teammates recognised what a massive moment that was for the 20-year-old, with Georginio Rutter ensuring he received the plaudits from supporters at the end.
Rutter ensured Gnonto takes the plaudits
According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, Rutter pushed Gnonto over towards the travelling contingent so that he could take the credit at full-time.
It was a real show of faith from Daniel Farke to put Gnonto in the starting line-up after last weekend but his decision has certainly paid dividends.
Gnonto has received some criticism for his recent performances but hopefully that goal is the catalyst for him to put a real run of form together in the second half of the season, as he could be a huge player going forward.
He is also on the verge of signing a new contract and both of these two factors can now really allow him to push on and put all the recent noise this season behind him.
Farke certainly has some dilemmas on his hands as to what to do when James returns from injury in the next week or so.
