‘What a baby’: Angus Kinnear told to ‘grow up’ by American pundit after comments on Leeds exit last week

American pundit Alexi Lalas has criticised Leeds United chief executive Angus Kinnear for his comments on Tyler Adams last week.

Lalas was speaking on the latest episode of his State of the Union podcast, where he branded Kinnear as a ‘baby’ following his criticism of Adams on the Square Ball.

Adams made the move to Bournemouth last month in a deal worth around £23 million + add-ons after making his feelings known behind-the-scenes that he wanted to leave.

As per Phil Hay, Adams is said to have threatened legal action against Leeds regarding the release clause in his contract that he felt had not been handled correctly.

In an interview with the Square Ball, Kinnear claimed there are ways to go about an exit from a club and that Adams would ‘not be on their Christmas Card list’ as a result of his behaviour.

Lalas, though, has leapt to the defence of his US compatriot, telling Kinnear to ‘grow up’ before adding that it is part and parcel of football for an agent to act in this manner.

He said: “Oh my god grow up. What a baby. Jeez. This is what happens! This is what happens when you go down and you have players that have other opportunities because of the talent that they have. So you probably should have picked better, gotten better players, gotten betters coaches, and figured out a way to stay in the EPL, and then you wouldn’t have lost your players.

“Come on. I don’t know what he’s referring to ultimately in terms of the actions but to have an agent work on your behalf, to have them do things that give you as a player plausible deniability, that is part of what the buffer of an agent is.

“And that is part of what the job of an agent is. It isn’t to look out for the team, it’s to look out for the player, and only the player, to get that player the best possible deal or situation that he or she can get for them. And that’s what happened in this case when it came to Tyler Adams.”

Lalas is very much contradicting in what he says here given that, by his own admission, he doesn’t actually know what went on behind-the-scenes regarding Adams.

With that in mind, it is strange to see him come out so vigorously in his defence and perhaps in future he should do a little more research on topics he wants to speak so passionately about.
