Weston McKennie has told LUTV that he was “yelling” at Luis Sinisterra to pass him the ball on the edge of the Nottingham Forest box – before the Leeds winger curled home what turned out to be the winner on Tuesday night.
McKennie, 24, returned to the starting line-up for Leeds on Tuesday night after only being a substitute during the 4-1 loss to Arsenal on Saturday. It comes after picking up an illness while on international duty with the USA side.
He lasted the entire 90 minutes alongside Marc Roca in Javi Gracia’s double pivot as Leeds went on to secure all three points. A win that saw Leeds spring up the table, into a safer looking 13th place. Two points above the drop.
Results went Leeds way with Bournemouth losing to Brighton, and Villa beating Leicester. It was Sinisterra that got the winner, cutting inside from the right to curl home past Keylow Navas. McKennie was asked about the Colombian.
He said he was screaming at the £21m signing from Feyenoord to pass him the ball on the edge of the box, after going past a number of players. But, instead, Sinisterra chose to go alone and to the delight of McKennie, he did.
“I was yelling at him when he was dribbling, play the ball. At the top of the box, I was free. But if he scores, I have no problem with it at all. If he just keeps just doing that then it’ll help us out. It’ll build his confidence,” McKennie said.

Thankfully, he did not listen to McKennie, kept his head down and had confidence in what he was going to do. Sinisterra showed glimpses against Forest, of Raphinha. The reason why we paid a considerable amount to get him.
Hopefully this is the start of a run of games in which the Colombian can remain fit and fire us to safety before the end of the season. If he plays like he did on Tuesday night then Leeds will have a fighting chance of staying up.
