Leeds United’s need for midfield additions has not stopped with the signing of Ethan Ampadu, the club still could do with another body alongside the Wales ace – and West Ham’s Flynn Downes could be the perfect summer signing.
Marc Roca, Weston McKennie and Adam Forshaw have all left. The latter is still said to prioritise rejoining Leeds, as per the Mail, but with the season starting in little over a fortnight, time is running out. Tyler Adams remains at Leeds.
The USA skipper will be the subject of bids as the window grows older. So, it is realistic to say that our midfielders will be Ampadu, teen duo Darko Gyabi and Archie Gray, and returning loan duo Jamie Shackleton and Lew Bate.
Leeds need another addition – even if Forshaw returns, even if Adams stay. Bate and Shackleton also find their roles at the club in doubt. So, a new midfielder is needed and £12m West Ham signing Downes could be the ideal signing.

The Mail claim West Ham were willing to include the 24-year-old in a deal for Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse, sending him on loan to The Saints. Southampton do not want Downes as part of a deal for Ward-Prowse.
West Ham star Flynn Downes could be perfect summer signing for Leeds
If the Hammers are willing to let him go on loan, Leeds should be all over it. A player that played 35 times for West Ham last season – but the majority of appearances were from the bench. Downes has Championship experience.
The midfielder has clocked up 76 outings in England’s second tier, and lower down with Ipswich. A workaholic, that has combined technical ability with his lung capacity. Holding midfield, but best as a six. Ideal summer loan signing.
